We have arrived in Cádiz – view from the window on deck 5.
Three sea days and three afternoon watercolour sessions means we’re half way through. Two complete beginners who are doing well. One couple I taught before are here too. Seemingly I “lit a fire” under one and he’s painting now like never before. Love that! The masks weren’t as popular as I thought. They wanted watercolour from the watercolour classes. Fair enough. But nonetheless there were nine made. Some fine specimens too.
My mask
The first projects went well. dolphins were jumping again and a lesson in perspective with an Almeria Village scene.
Was our exhibition. We must have had about 80 visitors which was great for our 20 artists who slowed their work. Unfortunately we had to put our work flat on tables as there was nowhere to hang it. the guests were a talented bunch with two complete beginners. I was so proud of their work.
They’re preparing and repairing the streets and pavements around this very pretty town in anticipation of the Cadiz carnival which starts next month. We’re lucky to be coming back on the parade day on 20 February.
The cathedral
There are plenty of open spaces in the large squares around the old buildings in comparison to the narrow street with the apartments opposite each other only around six feet apart.
We arrive in Arrecife early this morning. We waited until the shuttle bus became free to use and went into the pretty town via the lagoon bridge. The lovely thing here is that there are no tall buildings. We have an early departure so there’s a traditional sail away with music etc. Next stop Cadiz but sailing all day tomorrow so art in the afternoon.
There are so many places called Las Palmas and they’ve all got palm trees! Sitting in the Neptune Theatre where it’s quiet and good for people watching as it’s on the pool to tea station! tomorrow we’re in Lanzarote.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit today. Santa Cruz has lovely shops. The weather was warm as was the breeze. Fred Olsen junior visited the ship today. Mike looked down on him…..
